Every moment is a blessing...

I had a new pickleball student yesterday.

And you know how sometimes a person walks in and you can just… feel it? That radiance. That zest for life.

She had it — the kind of energy that fills a room before she's said a word.

So we're hitting some balls, and I'm a curious person by nature — so on one of the changeovers, I asked.

"What's your story? You've got this incredible energy. I want to know where that comes from."

She didn't flinch.

"Well, a couple years ago I had stage four leukemia. I almost died."

Wow. Okay.

Immediately I wanted to know. How are you here? How did you make it through that?

She got quiet for a second. Looked up.

And she said — "I just got to a point where I was okay with it. If it was my time, then so be it. I've lived a beautiful life. Amazing kids. An amazing husband."

She didn't pretend it was easy. There were brutal nights, she said. Brutal days.

But somewhere in there, she made peace with whatever came next.

I said, "So waking up every morning must feel like a blessing."

She looked right at me.

"That's right. Every moment is a blessing."

Then I asked her, “If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?”

And she said…

“I used to answer that question differently. I wouldn’t have married my first jerk of a husband, I wouldn’t have worried so much, I wouldn’t have created this disease…

But now, I realize I wouldn’t be here today if I had changed anything. So, no… I wouldn’t change a thing.”

After she left, I walked inside thinking about how much we worry about things that, in the end, don't matter all that much…

The body. The bank account. The career.

We pour all our attention onto it — and then we wonder why we’re stressed out all the time.

Whatever you’re going through…

As bad as it seems…

Who’s to say it doesn’t turn out to be a blessing in disguise?

I believe you're an infinite, eternal being...

And if ya zoom out far enough, and everything is going to be okay.
